Screen Soft Light / Timekeeping / LED BANNER

No. 001 · LED BANNER

LED banner — scrolling text on a dot-matrix sign

  • 01 Dot-matrix LED look, scrolling or still
  • 02 Six colours, rainbow or your own
  • 03 Share a link that opens with your message

Type a message and your screen becomes an LED sign: glowing dots on black, scrolling left or right, or held still. Make it big for a concert, an airport pickup or a birthday, then hold your phone up sideways so the text runs along the long edge. Nothing to install.

Screensavers and clocks —

Where people use it

Concerts and fan events, to hold a name or a message up to the stage. Arrivals halls, as a pickup sign that can be read across the crowd. Birthdays, sports games, a shop window, a car's rear window when parked, or a quiet hello across a noisy room. A phone at full brightness is readable from a few metres; a tablet or a TV from much further.

§ 02

Short messages work best: a name or a few words.

Making it readable from far away

Short messages work best: a name or a few words. Use Chunky dots so each letter is taller, turn the device brightness all the way up, and pick red, amber or green, which hold their colour best at a distance. White and cyan look brighter up close but can bloom on a camera. Slow the speed down if people only catch the sign for a moment.

Sharing a sign

Copy link puts your message, colour, speed and direction into the page address. Send it to a friend and their phone opens the same sign, so a group can hold up matching banners. The text lives in the link only; this page stores nothing.

Procedure

Three moves to peak output

  1. 01

    Type your message

Write it in Your message. Any language your device can type works, emoji included, up to 100 characters.

  2. 02

    Set the look

Pick a colour or Rainbow, set the Speed, choose the direction, and pick Chunky dots for distance or Fine dots for longer words. Tick Blink to make it flash.

  3. 03

Go fullscreen and hold it up

Press Fullscreen (or F, or double-click the sign). On a phone held upright, the text turns to run along the long edge, so turn the phone sideways and face the screen out.

Inquiries

Questions worth asking

Q.01 Can I type Chinese, Japanese, Korean or emoji?
Yes. The sign draws whatever your device's fonts can show. Complex characters need more dots to stay legible, so use Classic or Fine dots for them, and Chunky for Latin letters and numbers.
Q.02 Why does the text turn sideways on my phone?
An upright phone is tall and narrow, so a line of text across it would be tiny. In fullscreen the sign runs along the long edge instead, and you turn the phone on its side to show it. Untick Sideways on a tall screen if you would rather keep it upright.
Q.03 Is the blinking safe?
Blink switches the text on and off once a second, below the flash rates linked to photosensitive seizures. It is off by default. If your device asks for reduced motion, the sign also starts at a slow speed.
Q.04 Will the screen stay on?
While Keep screen on is ticked, the page asks the browser to hold the display awake. Chrome, Edge and recent Safari support this. On a browser that does not, turn off auto-lock in the device settings before you hold the sign up.
Q.05 Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded it needs no connection. The message is drawn by your browser, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Only a link you copy and share carries the text, inside the link itself.
